Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. was a global financial services firm. Founded in 1850, it survived the Civil War, two World Wars, and the Great Depression. It did not survive the subprime mortgage crisis. On September 15, 2008, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy—the largest in U.S. history.
